Dear one,

One of the sad side effects of our 24/7 rapid-fire social media lives is that we become even more intensely hypersensitive when we don’t think people are paying attention to things that matter to us. This may manifest itself in a variety of ways, from depression to anger, passive aggression to activism shaming.

Social media means different things to each of us, and we each use it in the way that suits us best. We are individuals, and that means we see the world through our own unique lenses, based on our own unique life experiences. Speak out on issues that are important to you, but understand that no one is your parrot. Belittling or shaming others for not saying what you want to hear is tantamount to schoolyard bullying.

Remember that we are not our social media feeds. There are many things I think, believe, and support that never find their way to my social media accounts, and that is my choice and my decision, not yours.

Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.

Love,
