When I served in the U.S. Air Force, I learned the importance of having core values. When Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell made it impossible to live by theirs, I quietly wrote my own and they have informed the way I live my life ever since. Have I been perfect in my adherence? Absolutely not. But these core values are and will always be the benchmarks to which I aspire.

My core values are HIS: Honor, Integrity, and Service.

A person of HONOR is known to be worthy of respect for being true to their word and maintaining their good name.

A person of INTEGRITY has a firm adherence to a code of values, existing in a state of being complete as an individual.

A person of SERVICE contributes to the betterment and welfare of others because it is the right thing to do.
