Dear one,
Despite major setbacks in recent years in the US, most of us are blessed to live in a society that affords us the luxury of freedom in most areas of our lives. In some parts of the world, there are countless people who eat only what they can find, when they can find it. Some of those people are right here in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
In some parts of the world, arranged marriages are still commonplace and to speak out against them could mean death. In my own lifetime I have witnessed arranged marriages taking place in fundamentalist churches in the American South. In some parts of the world, people are still dying from diseases that have long since been eradicated where we live.
Women in the US are paid roughly 83% of what men are paid, and their bodies are the subject of legislation in ways that men are not.
People of color, people of trans experience, queer people, the list goes on. Today I ask you to challenge the way you view the world around you and to try and see things from someone else’s perspective.
Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.
