“If you spend your time hoping someone will suffer the consequences for what they did to your heart, then you’re allowing them to hurt you a second time in your mind.”Shannon L. Alder
I’ve talked in the past about how anger is usually evidence that we are not in control of ourselves. This quote beautifully illustrates how that can play out in our lives. As long as I am giving you brain time, I am allowing you to remain in control.
One of my spiritual teachers once taught me his personal mantra for meditating on others. While he would meditate, as someone floated into his mind, he simply repeated, “may they receive all that they deserve.” I have to say, as someone with a serious love of words, that short statement is a master class in fuck around and find out. It’s either a blessing or a curse, and that determination is made by the person you’re thinking about.
Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.
