Good morning, dear one.

When I created this website and this blog, I did it to share my thoughts, writing, and random personal shit to people who wanted to know more about me. With the recent SCOTUS decision overturning Roe v. Wade, and the concurring Clarence Thomas opinion, all of this has come to represent more for me now because visibility and representation are more important than ever.

In his opinion, Thomas referenced three already decided cases that he believes should be reconsidered. For the edification of those who may not be familiar, I am going to give a brief description of those three decisions here:

Griswold v. Connecticut (1965)

SCOTUS ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects the liberty of married couples to buy and use contraceptives without government restriction. If Thomas gets his way, contraceptives will be once again highly regulated and access to birth control will be restricted.

Lawrence v. Texas (2003)

SCOTUS ruled that sanctions of criminal punishment for those who commit sodomy are unconstitutional. If Thomas gets his way, sex between consenting adults that is not done with the intent of reproduction would once again be illegal. This would include all same-sex relations.

Obergefell v. Hodges (2015)

SCOTUS ruled that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. If Thomas gets his way, same sex marriage will no longer be recognized.

The Roe v. Wade ruling was just a first step toward completely destroying fundamental rights that have already been argued and ruled on. Not only would Thomas strip me of my marriage to my husband and all the legally recognized rights and responsibilities that includes, but he would also want to overrule my right to engage in consensual same sex relations at all.

Last week’s ruling made me see this site and what I say here through a different lens; I’m here to live out loud and I will not be be silent.

And never forget that I love you.

Love,
