Healing doesn’t mean you always feel better. It means you fear it, you face it, and you get through it a little better.

Dear one,

We live in strange times. A global pandemic reframed the way we see and interact with the world, and it seems to have done as much psychological harm as it has physical. We have distanced ourselves from others, starving ourselves and each other of physical contact.

We have worn masks to protect ourselves from COVID-19, and while that protection may have been a net positive against contracting that virus, it also lowered our natural immunity to viruses like the common cold. We sniffle or cough and immediately fear we’ve contracted COVID and we’re relieved when our home test tells us otherwise. Then we get our ass kicked by cold or flu. And those colds and flus last longer. They hit harder. They take us out and leave us feeling all the things.

Give yourself permission to feel like shit, dear one. You’re not a part of the Marvel or DC universes, so be human and remind yourself that you don’t need to run at 100% all the time. Give yourself permission to be sick and tired.

Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.

Love,
