“It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is.”
Herman Hesse
Dear one,
Every so often, someone will compliment me by saying they want to be more like me, or my favorite, “I want to be Michael when I grow up.” It’s a sweet sentiment, but my mind always goes to this Hesse quote.
My hope is that you devote time to recognizing others, to seeing them for who they truly are. May we not waste our lives trying to be something or someone we’re not. Instead, may we dedicate the time necessary to get to know ourselves and learn to appreciate our value as individuals.
Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.
Love,
