I’ve put a lot of effort into stopping myself from being a social Yeah, Butter. You know the type: Someone posts something funny, sweet, or uplifting on social media and someone else shows up to say “Yeah, but…”
There comes a point where being culturally sensitive & socially aware must coexist with daily life. I hope to walk that line as consciously as is reasonably possible without becoming the Think Police. Not every minute of every day is or should be a so-called ‘teachable moment’. Some moments are just meant to be enjoyed, and that’s okay.
We are living in a time when news and information is not only accessible 24/7, but being shoved down our throats via push notifications and retweets. Being informed is important, but so is living your life. It’s okay to leave text messages unanswered if you’re overwhelmed. It’s okay to turn off the background noise and just be happy for a while. It’s okay to deny the world 24/7 access to your peace without feeling guilty about it.
Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.
Love,
Amen!
