Dear one,
Do you ever wonder if it’s worth it? I do.
I work in a field where there are five steps back for every step forward. I am yelled at daily by community members and clients alike. I ask myself constantly if it’s worth it and thus far the answer has been ‘yes’.
I write love letters to strangers on the internet every day in the hope that something I say might possibly reach someone who needs it. I ask myself constantly if it’s worth it and thus far the answer has been ‘yes’.
My relationships. My social media presence. My Hulu subscription. In all aspects of my life I am constantly questioning whether or not the nouns in my life (people, places, things, and ideas) are worth it. Am I getting something out of it that energizes me or is it just an energy drain? I don’t ask these questions because I doubt myself or what I have chosen for my life. I ask because I am a giver by nature, and questioning myself is how I ensure that I am acting in my own best interests, or putting on my mask before I put on someone else’s.
Today I encourage you to question your life. From your eating habits to the people with whom you interact, from your job to what you watch on television. It may seem ridiculous, but examining the minute details of your life with an eye toward whether it is enriching or depleting you can be a game changer.
Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.
Love,
