I think one of the biggest obstacles to healthy self esteem is not being happy with ourselves, so when we tap into that happiness, we don’t have the time to concern ourselves with what others think about us. There are always going to be people who will talk about you behind your back. The challenge is to live a life that is so authentic, so fulfilling and enriching for yourself that what others might say about you doesn’t matter.
Let go of the idea that you need to tell your side of the story when someone is talking negatively about you. I strive every day to live a life of authenticity, led by my core values of Integrity, Honor, and Service. If I am doing that, then my life is my example.
One last thing: It’s easy in the era of social media followers to get caught up in numbers, but bigger is not always better. Surround yourself with quality, not quantity. Those who know you – truly know you – will not be swayed by people spreading gossip or negativity. Just remember that in order to rise above such things, you have to make sure you’re not feeding into them.
When you find your happiness and dive headlong into it, what other people think of you won’t matter as much anymore.
Never forget that I love you, and that excludes no one.
